CEC welcomes Libby Atkins as a Policy Intern

Libby Atkins is a junior undergraduate student studying Social Policy Analysis, Environmental Studies, and Anthropology at Rice University. She plans to complete undergraduate research on climate refugee policy, and has research interests the gendered impacts water scarcity has on indigenous groups of Latin America. She plans to continue her studies in environmental policy at the graduate level and pursue a profession in academia. Libby is also involved with the climate justice organization Sunrise Movement, where she leads the West University Sunrise Hub with the goal of engaging Houstonians in fighting destructive environmental policies. Libby volunteers with Rice University’s Women’s Resource Center and has held office in Rice for Reproductive Justice. She enjoys educating others and working to uplift communities regarding the intersection of women’s rights and environmental justice. In her free time, Libby enjoys spending time swimming, makeup artistry, and baking desserts, along with watching movies and talking politics. She enjoys the abundance of delicious food options Houston has as well. She looks forward to working with CEC to promote climate education and environmental justice in the policy sphere of Houston.
