The members of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved penalties totaling $926,275 at their meeting on May 31. Included in the total fine is a penalty of $336,566 against BP Products North America, Inc, in Galveston County for air violations.
Houston TranStar announced this week that it is beginning a free service to send notices of traffic delays to motorists’ mobile devices. The notices can be sent to color Palms, pocket PCs, and certain Blackberrys.
The Galveston Bay Foundation will be helping to restore Pierce Marsh near Hitchcock on Saturday, June 3, from 8 am to 1 pm. Pierce Marsh was once valuable fish and wildlife habitat but, as a result of subsidence caused by groundwater withdrawal, large areas of the marsh have become open water.
