Environmental Education (EE) Grant Solicitation Notice

Under the 2020 EE Local Grant Program, 10 Requests for Applications (RFA) were issued nationally, one in each of EPA’s ten Regions.  EPA expects to award three to four grants from each of the EPA’s 10 Regional Offices for a total of approximately 30 to 35 grants nationwide. All RFAs are available on www.grants.gov, where applications must be submitted electronically.

Please make sure you submit your application to the correct EPA Region that corresponds to the location of the project, which may not necessarily be where your organization is based.  

The closing date and time for receipt of application submissions is January 6, 2020, 11:59pm Eastern Time (ET).

Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour @ Online Event

wild & scenic film festival on tour earthshare of texas eventsThe Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour is returning to the Bayou City on January 29, 2021. Hosted for the seventh straight year by the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition, this ever-popular film fest will be a virtual experience.

The January festival is just one of many offerings as part of the Houston Green Film Series. The lineup in January features national and international films that awe and inspire action to protect and preserve our environment. The festival also provides a broader audience for us to share three winners of the Wild About Houston Film Festival that highlight local environmental treasures and initiatives.

The auction has some GREAT items in 2021, including a pontoon boat ride through Armand Bayou Nature Center, a private cistern tour from Buffalo Bayou Partnership, custom art made by an ambassador animal at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center in Pearland and a private tour of Deer Park Prairie with Native Prairies Association of Texas. Bidding is open on this Google Form through February 1 at noon.

This Plant-Based Burger Bar/Potluck kicks off a week long awareness campaign for animal rights and veganism. We are featuring Animal activist/author Ed Winters, Musical guest Strands of Compassion, and a sermon by D. Scott Cooper.

We hope to find likeminded community members whose beliefs resonate with that of First UU of Houston as well as informing our own community to the Environmental, Health, and Ethical importance of transitioning to a plant-based, vegan lifestyle.

Vegetarianism and the Environment @ Online

First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston along with the climate action team is sponsoring a series of events as part of service dedicated to animal rights. This event will feature World Renowned Vegan Activist Ed Winters speaking about veganism and the environment. Ed will be available to answer questions for approximately 30 minutes following the talk.

First UU of Houston will begin the series with a Plant-based potluck which will also require a registration. Following the potluck we will be hosting a concert by Strands of Compassion to which all are welcome to attend this will be a pay what you wish event. On Saturday we will host the Ed Winters Talk w/ Q&A. And on Sunday Rev. D. Scott Cooper will deliver his Sermon for the Animals.

We hope you might attend all or some of these events.
