Texas Tech University will host a virtual 1.5 day seminar that will meet the requirement for becoming a part of the OLE! Texas Design Network. Those who complete this training will no longer need to complete the NLI course.

Fee: There is no fee associated with this workshop, however, we are asking all participants to support the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children with a $20 donation towards their 2021 Healthy Beginnings Conference. The conference theme is “Taking Learning Outdoors” and donations will support conference scholarships for local early care and education professionals. Donations can be made via their PayPal Account. Â
Participation Requirements:Â Participants must attend the full workshop in order to be added to the list of OLE! Texas certified designers. This evens is ONLY for Landscape Architects & Designers who are willing to support early care and education programs in the Harris County area.

Birding in the Barrio, a workshop by Texas Children in Nature
This workshop explores the importance of diversity for the next generation of birders and ways to help minority birders overcome the fear of birding through The Texas Blue Jay Project.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour is returning to the Bayou City on January 29, 2021. Hosted for the seventh straight year by the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition, this ever-popular film fest will be a virtual experience.
The January festival is just one of many offerings as part of the Houston Green Film Series. The lineup in January features national and international films that awe and inspire action to protect and preserve our environment. The festival also provides a broader audience for us to share three winners of the Wild About Houston Film Festival that highlight local environmental treasures and initiatives.
The auction has some GREAT items in 2021, including a pontoon boat ride through Armand Bayou Nature Center, a private cistern tour from Buffalo Bayou Partnership, custom art made by an ambassador animal at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center in Pearland and a private tour of Deer Park Prairie with Native Prairies Association of Texas. Bidding is open on this Google Form through February 1 at noon.
Join staff from Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve for a look at how to use iNaturalist to participate in a BioBlitz.
Then participate in a Bird Count Feb. 12 – 15 and the BioBlitz March 13-21 in any of the parks.

The Gulf Coast Bird Observatory’s “Brew on the Bayou†third annual celebration will take place on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at GCBO’s headquarters in Lake Jackson at 299 Highway 332 West.
Sample and enjoy local specialty brews and wines from eight breweries and three wineries. Listen to live music by the Intercoastal Pirates, watch a live raptor show, grab a bite to eat from local food trucks, and check out the silent auction. Our beautiful wooded grounds will be lit by torchlight. Take a pontoon boat ride on the bayou. Walk our nature trails.
Tickets are $20/person in advance and can be bought by calling 979-480-0999. Pre-sale ends March 10. Tickets will cost $25 on the day of the event. ID required at door for brew-tasting. Included in the ticket price is everything except food trucks and dessert table. Admission includes 12 drink tasting tickets; additional beer or wine tickets will be available for purchase. Come support our wildlife conservation work while enjoying a magical evening on the bayou!

Civic Science: Inquiry to Action
This six-session synchronous course will delve into CELF’s Inquiry to Action Framework to enhance real-world learning in your school community and engage student learning through inquiry, place and action. You will join a multi-state cohort of 5th-12th grade educators, developing and building upon place-based projects and exploring environmental pathways, such as water, biodiversity and air. This program is designed to support educators at any point in their civic science journey providing the opportunity for students to become civic scientists, equipped to confront 21st-century challenges.
