CEC Welcomes Betsy Acosta as Media & Production Intern
Betsy Acosta is an upcoming senior at the University of Houston pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She keeps busy by participating in organizations such as the El Gato Media and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Chapter at U of H, for which she serves on the board.
Some of Betsy’s hobbies include creative writing and filming, and heavy-weight training. She hopes to start a YouTube channel to practice her delivery and editing. She is always hungry for knowledge, so she is excited to be interning with Citizens’ Environmental Coalition this summer. She hopes that this internship pushes her to a new level and promises to give her best at all times.
Her goals include being a respected bilingual journalist, informing and helping communities that need it, and writing an amazing book. More than anything, though, she hopes to inspire others with big dreams to go for them no matter what.
Betsy is working at the CEC as part of the prestigious Mickey Leland Environmental Internship Program, organized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The goals of the programs are:
- To heighten the awareness and encourage the participation of minorities, women, and economically disadvantaged college/university students regarding environmental-related issues and policies.
- To develop a diversified work force within Texas’ environmental agencies and private corporations by promoting employment opportunities for students exploring future careers in environmental and related fields.
- To train and equip students as environmental professionals and future leaders.
