Texas Freedom Network seeks Political Consultant on Climate Justice

This is a contract position for the 2023 regular legislative session in Austin. This contract will begin in early January through the end of May, with the possibility of extension depending on the legislature.

The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

The Political Consultant on Climate Justice will oversee TFN’s climate work at the Texas Legislature. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to track and monitor related bills at the Texas Legislature and coordinate with the organization on strategy.  

The Political Consultant on Climate Justice should be passionate about social justice, a self starter, and have a working knowledge of climate policies in Texas. This position will report to the Senior Political Director.

Location: Austin preferred

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Political Director in developing and implementing the legislative strategy for our climate work at TFN. This includes policy research, lobbying, and internal strategizing. 
  • Supporting the organization in strategizing around key mobilization moments at the legislature
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with partner organizations by building individual relationships and representing TFN in various coalition settings related to climate justice
  • Assisting in building relationships with elected officials at the Texas Legislature
  • Monitoring the legislative process and keep the Senior Political Director and Political Coordinator updated
  • Monitoring relevant legislative public hearings 
  • Managing daily bill tracking of relevant legislation filed during the 2023 legislative session
  • Assisting in policy research of relevant legislation during the 2023 legislative session
  • Collaborating with other TFN departments and programs on related work

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ideally have 1 -2 years working on issues related to Climate Justice
  • Ideally have 1-2 years working in a non-profit organization or on a political campaign
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization
  • Highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently and in a team environment

Compensation: $4,000 per month (January – May)
