Earth Day Houston 2021
Join us Sunday, April 18, 2021, from noon to 5 pm, for Earth Day Houston at Discovery Green, presented by Green Mountain Energy in partnership with Citizens Environmental Coalition.
The event is outdoors, free, and open to the public. Exhibitors will be spaced out to allow for social distancing and masks are required.
Earth Day Houston at Discovery Green, presented by Green Mountain Energy in partnership with the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition is designed to educate, inspire and encourage action. The event features exhibitions, a panel discussion and live mural painting. Online viewing options of the panel discussion will be provided.
A series of short films about Houston’s environment begins on the Anheuser-Busch stage from noon to 3 p.m. Participants are invited to view them throughout the afternoon. Urban Harvest and Churrascos food truck will be on-site serving healthy snacks and meals.Â
A panel discussion on The Nexus of Energy, Climate, and Equity in Houston will be held on the Anheuser-Busch stage from 4 to 5 p.m. The discussion will examine the freeze in February 2021 and how electricity production affects the environment and what can be done to protect vulnerable populations. The panel discussion will also be streamed virtually. Register at discoverygreen.org to receive a link to the virtual program when it becomes available.Â
Throughout the day enjoy live painting by Houston artists completing murals that celebrate the richness and diversity of our community, culture, and natural environment. The 13 artists were chosen from 111 applicants for their designs that envision the Houston we want to see and inspire us to create that shared future together. Their work will be on display at the park through October 2021.
The Houston artists chosen for the project are: Melissa Aytenfisu, Betirri, Hannah Bull, DUAL, Empire, Max Guarnaccia, Kill Joy, Gelson D. Lemus (w3r3on3), Chelsea Mariah, Renee Martinez, Meenr, Amol Saraf and Usagi Wasabi.
Many thanks to our sponsors: Green Mountain Energy and Port Houston.
