CEC Welcomes Emma Wilson as its first SCA Americorps Intern
Emma is a returned Peace Corps volunteer and a Forestry major/Recreation Management minor graduate from Stephen F. Austin State University.
While serving in the Peace Corps, Paraguay, the heart of South America and home of the pineapple, was Emma’s home for two years. She connected local, regional, and international environmental organizations to communities and schools in rural and semi-urban neighborhoods. While not working in a classroom, she fostered kittens, used baking to break down cultural barriers, and chatted in Spanish and Jopara with friends and neighbors over a glass of tereré, or Paraguayan iced tea.
As a native Houstonian, Emma has found camping and hiking to be a welcome balance to city life and was always intrigued by little discoveries of wildness in her backyard. She also seeks to unite her artistic talents with her passion for protecting the natural world. Because of that, she is excited to join CEC in spreading that joy to others in the community and future generations of outdoor explorers. Her internship is part of the Americorps program, in partnership with the Student Conservation Association.
Emma also loves drawing, craft projects, and snuggling with her two Paraguayan kitties. Her tastes in music are eclectic and she hates when people ask about her favorite book because there are just too many good choices. If you don’t see her behind the scenes at our Virtually Wild! programs, you might catch her biking along the White Oak Bayou trail.
