Hazardous Item Drop-off

Title: Hazardous Item Drop-off
Location: Gulf Greyhound Park
Link out: Click here
Description: The city of Dickinson, through a grant funded by H-GAC and the TCEQ, in partnership with Gulf Greyhound Park, the cities of League City and Texas City, Galveston County, the County Health District and Keep Dickinson Beautiful, will host a free drop-off event at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 27.

I encourage everyone in Galveston County and surrounding cities to participate in this opportunity to rid your garages and storage sheds of unused, unwanted paints, tires, electronics and toxic chemicals that are barred from local landfills. This event makes for easy disposal.

There is no need to get out of our car as hazardous items, tires, electronics and white goods will be unloaded for you as you make your way through the site. Please bring paints or any flammable or corrosives in sturdy boxes as to avoid leakage and please remove all other items from your trunk or truck bed to avoid contamination. Pharmaceuticals cannot be accepted.

Automotive batteries, oils and fluids, filters will be accepted — paints, thinners, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, flammables and corrosives. “White goods” such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers/dryers, water heaters will be accepted, as will tires (limit six per vehicle) and electronics (limit five per vehicle).

ShredPro will be on site to securely dispose of personal documents and Galveston County will provide a trailer for the collection of used tires. This is a “households only” event, waste from businesses, farms or commercial operations will not be accepted. Collected materials will be recycled or incinerated, not sent to a landfill.
