  1. Dike visitors urged to avoid birds’ nest area (T.J. Aulds – The Galveston County Daily News, 9/11/2010)
    Since Hurricane Ike destroyed the Texas City Dike two years ago, a variety of birds, including hundreds of black skimmers, have settled in the area. There is concern about this population as the city prepares to re-open the dike. Since skimmers prefer open ground for nesting, they chose the dike after many high tides in the spring took out their previous nesting areas.

  3. A new push by city: greener offices (Nancy Sarnoff – Houston Chronicle, 9/15/2010)
    Houston will be initiating a yearlong program called the Green Office Challenge to get property owners and managers to reduce their energy consumption and water use and waste, and to encourage them to recycle, carpool, and use eco-friendly products.
