Mercer Botanic Gardens partners with colleges, universities, and high school to find motivated students who wish to conduct botanic research, engage garden visitors through programming, and explore natural mosquito abatement methods at our facilities. This year, Mercer is proud to showcase the work of student partners acquired through Harris County Precinct 4’s Intern Program, the Lone Start College – Kingwood Biology Honors Program, and Native Plant Society of Texas and Center for Plant Conservation funding. Students and Interns will present projects featuring education and interpretation of Mercer’s globally diverse botanical collections; research and documentation of the SBSC Hervarium collection of more than 50,000 plant specimens and over 2,300 botanical illustrations, propagation work for Mecer’s rare plant conservation program and greenhouse collections; restoration of the Harris County Precinct 4 Prairie Dawn Preserve; restoration of flood damaged garden areas; and mosquito abatement research.
