Rice Design Alliance Fall Lecture Series – Sharing – John Alschuler
The Rice Design Alliance Fall Lecture Series 2018 is organized in collaboration with PLAT Journal and Rice Architecture. Through a series of lectures and accompanying publications, RDA’s Fall Lecture Series 2018 will explore different definitions of the sharing economy as they relate to the built environment. Many of the physical spaces that architects, landscape architects, urbanists, and engineers design are inherently locales of joint access and participation. Today, digitally-based platforms, supported by vast physical infrastructures, facilitate new types of exchange. Such platforms bring about liberating possibilities to actualize transnational networks that coalesce around food, shelter, transportation, and talent. Yet, for every emancipatory path an equally restrictive one exists. The Fall Lecture Series 2018 will address these rapidly changing notions of sharing and will invite three internationally renowned practitioners to reflect on their experiences and the ways in which they have affected their design thinking.
