Florescence is one of the largest competitive national flower shows sanctioned by the Garden Club of America in the United States. Florescence is presented by The Garden Club of Houston, River Oaks Garden Club, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). Proceeds directly support Florescence’s nonprofit sponsors: The Garden Club of Houston, River Oaks Garden Club, and the MFAH. Both garden clubs rely on Florescence proceeds to support their projects in gardens, parks, and green spaces throughout our community.

Florescence is pure delight, from spectacular arrangements and prize horticultural specimens to needlepoint creations to visiting experts such as Tomas De Bruyne, Carey Maloney & Hermes Mallea. Many displayed arrangements interpret Museum masterpieces, others highlight The Asia Society, Texas; Federated Garden Clubs; Texas State Floral Association, Lamar High School FFA, and Ikebana International, Houston Chapter. Proceeds benefit GCH & ROGC civic projects and MFA.
One of my favorite divisions is Botanical Arts. Minute plant bits (right out of our backyards!) are turned into exquisite works of art. Below, GCH’s Dodie Goodman — a multiple Garden Club of America and MFA award winner and well-known national Horticulture, Arranging, and Botanical Arts presenter –  gives us an inside look at creating these “gems”. Trust me, pictures don’t do them justice. Go see for yourself.
