First Concert at Levy Park: Silk Road
Levy Park Conservancy presents the first of many live concerts in Levy Park, located in Upper Kirby, with the Silk Road Jazz Quartet performing on Friday, May 19. Levy Park’s Performance Pavilion will be the site of this inaugural concert. The structure faces the Park’s Event Lawn, which can accommodate up to 3,000 people for concerts and performances of all types. The concert by this instrumental jazz band is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a picnic dinner, or they can purchase food and beverage from food trucks in the Park.
Silk Road is an instrumental jazz band performing primarily straight-ahead jazz largely from the ‘50s and 60s. The band features guitarist Clayton Dyess, a native Houstonian who has recorded and performed internationally with such jazz legends as Arnett Cobb, Dizzy Gillespie, David “Fathead†Newman, Jewel Brown, and the Modern Jazz Quartet. He was Music Director of Cobb’s Mob and fills that role for Silk Road as well. For more information, visit www.levyparkhouston.org.
