This free, monthly workshop addresses the basics on how to install and operate a solar system. It covers topics such as solar array types, costs of equipment and labor, permitting, energy savings, and reliability. The instructor, Bill Swann, is an expert in solar energy and has built many of his own solar systems. This workshop is ideal for all people; Bill can answer the simplest and most technical of questions. If you want to learn more about solar, this is the workshop for you. Bring the whole family and join Katy Prairie Conservancy at the future Houston Botanic Garden site for hands-on activities to learn about the grasses and wildflowers of the prairies of Texas that are the home to many furry and feathered friends. You will learn about the wildlife that lives on the Katy Prairie, plant a seedling to take home, and more. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Registration required. All children must be accompanied by an adult. (No charge for adult chaperone.)
Attendees may participate in a site walk after their class at 10 a.m.
On March 31, 2019, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., the Coastal Prairie Partnership and the Native Prairies Association of Texas will host a workshop for prairie plant gardening and milkweed propagation. It will be taught by Mark Morgenstern of Morning Star Prairie Plants and Barbara Willy of Monarch Gateway. The workshop will be at the Brazos Bend State Park Dining Hall, 21901 FM 762, in Needville. Join Katy Prairie Conservancy for a workshop on planting for pollinators. Even in their yards, individuals can make a big difference for local wildlife by planting a handful of native plants. Local expert Susie Marten will share information on the importance of native plants for pollinators and tips on choosing and planting native plants in your own garden or yard. Native plants will available for purchase, and each attendee will receive a free plant. Recommended for adults. Registration required.

The Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office is soliciting applications for projects that address environmental concerns within the coastal zone and promote sustainable economic development. Texas Coastal Management Program (CMP) Cycle 25 involves a competitive pre-proposal process followed by an invitation-only final application submission. For more information, visit glo.texas.gov.
The Texas Watershed Steward program is a free, educational workshop designed to help watershed residents improve and protect their water resources by getting involved in local watershed protection and management activities.

H-GAC’s Solid Waste Program is reimagining its past roundtable-style meetings into a new Solid Waste Workshop Series. This format will offer a more in-depth look at select solid waste topics, resulting in greater value for attendees.

The H-GAC Clean Waters Initiative Workshop Series returns on Feb. 26, 2019. The tentative topic will be funding sources for water and wastewater-related infrastructure.
