Houston Audubon’s Birdathon
Mar 10 – May 21 all-day

Birding is the birder’s equivalent to a walkathon, but better (because you get to look at birds all day). Teams of 2 or more (typically 4-5) compete to count as many bird species as possible in a consecutive 24-hour period. Birdathon is primarily a fundraiser, so teams also compete to raise the most money for the best cause: bird conservation. Birding can be done anywhere in Texas but the Houston Audubon encourages you to visit their sanctuaries for a great birding experience. Whether you can identify 2 species or 200, birders of all experience levels are welcome to participate in Birdathon! For more information, visit sweet_houstonaudubon.blueskysweet.com.

Climate Action Plan Meeting @ Green Building Resource Center, City of Houston Permitting Center
Mar 27 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

City of Houston—Houston Public Works’ Code Enforcement Green Building Resource Center presents an Education Seminar in partnership with the Texas Chapter of the US Green Building Council.  Interested in helping the City of Houston with our Climate Action Plan? Stakeholder meetings are an important way for cities to gather and dispense information to the interested public. Climate action plans are complicated and data intensive. This is a great opportunity to learn how they are developed, and what type of data they require.

Hear Speakers:  Larissa Williams, Energy Manager, City of Houston ARA Sustainability; Gavin Dillingham, PhD, Clean Energy Policies, Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC); and Steve Stelzer, Program Director, City of Houston Green Building Resource Center.  Larissa will explain the intentions and processes of the Plan. Gavin will discuss the data gathering and research components. Steve will report findings and outcomes from plans of other cities. The event will be filmed to serve as a record for this important public engagement. In addition we will be answering questions, and taking notes for follow up.

The meeting is free and open to the public on Wednesday, March 27th at 6:00pm.  The event is held in the Green Building Resource Center, located in the Houston Permitting Center with its LEED Gold Certification since 2012. The GBRC is Houston’s best location for seeing displays of green building materials and strategies.

Hammers and Ales @ Karbach Brewing Co.
Apr 4 @ 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Come on out to our annual fundraiser, Hammers and Ales, a Happy Hour style event at Karbach Brewery on April 4th, 2019, now with live music! Enjoy a bottomless selection of Karbach beer, as well as tasty heavy bites from Karbach’s kitchen, a rad silent auction, a cornhole tournament, other fun games and a raffle. This year, the event will move downstairs to the outside area to accommodate an expected crowd of 400 plus attendees. And, we’re excited to announce live music from Eagles tribute band Already Gone. All event proceeds will go to support the Houston Community ToolBank.

And as usual, we’ll be raffling and auctioning off valuable items, all to raise money for the ToolBank’s mission and ongoing Harvey recovery efforts: serving Houston-area nonprofits, churches, schools and community groups by providing tools for pennies on the dollar to drive volunteerism in our community. All proceeds will benefit the ToolBank directly.

We are offering a limited number of VIP tickets. VIP tickets include early admission, swag bags and rapid check in.

We look forward to seeing you at Hammers & Ales on April 4th, 2019!
