All About Central City Co-Op
In September 2001, Jennifer Georgantas and Pat Greer dreamed of a community of people joining together each week around healthy, earth-friendly food. This dream became a reality 15 years ago with the founding of Central City Co-Op, Houston’s very first organic co-op.
Organic Produce, Organic Community
Our mission is to support sustainable, chemical free farming practices through offering both 1) sustainably raised local and 2) certified USDA organic national produce and farm goods to our community at the fairest prices possible.
Everything we carry on our shelves and stock in our shares is either locally, sustainably grown by farmers we know or is nationally-certified USDA organic. Both are great options for you and for our planet!
Central City Co-Op also provides a space for individuals to come together as a community. We support every member of our community in their journey to learn more about where their food comes from, how it’s produced, and how the local economy is impacted by food choices.

The public can enjoy a variety of locally prepared ready-to-eat or packaged to-go foods, pick up farm-fresh weekly groceries and at the same time support sustainable food, all amidst Houston’s dramatic downtown urban setting.  The City Hall Farmers Market features more than 30 vendors (located along both sides of City Hall’s reflection pool), including local fresh produce grown by local farmers, cheeses, breads, roasted coffees, and a variety of prepared meals, as well as food trucks.
Downtown dwellers and employees are encouraged to walk, take Greenlink (the downtown shuttle) or ride a bike via Houston Bike Share. Garage Parking is located at 400 Rusk or metered street parking is available. Note the market is discontinued during the hottest summer, so please check the website for operating dates.
Every Thursday, rain or shine, from 2 pm to 6 pm (3 pm to 7 pm during Daylight Saving Time), Lake Houston Area residents visit Kingwood Town Center Park to pick up produce, fresh bread, homemade soaps, herbs, flowers, plants, Indian food, and more from Kingwood Farmers Market.
The Kingwood Famers Market makes our community stronger because shoppers have the opportunity to meet the faces behind their food and vendors get chance to meet and connect with the communities they nourish.

The Urban Harvest Eastside Farmers Market bring the bounty of the garden to Houstonians every Saturday year round, rain or shine, 8-12pm. Growers offer locally produced vegetables, fruits, farm products, dairy products, prepared foods, cut flowers and plants. The Urban Harvest’s colorful market supports a number of family farms and boosts the income of small growers from the area. School groups, community gardeners, and backyard gardeners have the opportunity to sell their products and learn about market gardening with the Houston Regional Market Growers Co-op.
Due to City Health ordinance, dogs are not allowed at the Urban Harvest Eastside Farmers Market.
The Woodlands Farmer’s Market at Grogan’s Mill was established in 2008 as “The Grogan’s Mill Farmer’s Market,†a weekly community event sponsored by the Grogan’s Mill Village Association. The Market is open Saturdays from 8 am – 12 pm at the Grogan’s Mill Center. The market typically closes only one Saturday during the year, the Saturday between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  If you drive to the market you will find the village center has plenty of parking. If you choose to walk or ride your bike, it is located just off of the Mill Bend Trail with direct access under Grogan’s Mill Rd.
The Market adheres to high standards requiring that all agricultural and artisan vendors grow or produce the good they sell. Each of the prepared food vendors is required to use a commercial kitchen when preparing their product.
Profits from our Market are returned to the community through the Grogan’s Mill Village Association’s philanthropic programs. These programs include but are not limited to, college scholarships from, support of CISD schools and Good Citizen Awards.
Farmer’s Markets are the alternative to the corporate store-house. Heights Epicurean’s farmers are dedicated to chemical-free, sustainable farming methods including humane aminal treatment, using Texas products in Texas.
On the first Saturday of each month, everyone in the Heights Epicurean Farmers Market community reconvenes, pops up their tents, and joins the Greater Heights Community for some fun in the sunshine! Grace United Methodist Church is the centerpiece of Heights Boulevard. Her beautiful campus stretches to the Yale side encompasing almost a full block. It’s the heart of the Boulevard, and a beautiful space.
