On May 24, 2018, beginning at 7 p.m., The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. will host a free Going Green Sustainability Lecture titled “Regional Water Planning; What Is It And Why Is It Important To Me?†at the offices of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), 8801 Gosling Road. Jason Afinowicz, P.E., an associate and project manager with the engineering firm Freese and Nichols, who is managing the development of the Region H long-range water plan, will be the guest speaker. There is no registration fee. The lunch menu is buffet style, and the South Texas Section subsidizes lunch cost by $5 per attendee. STS members as well as non-members are welcome to attend. They only request that you pre-register at the STS-AIChE.org website so they can get an accurate head count for the restaurant.

This presentation will give you insight on how to create a garden for caterpillars and adult butterflies. We will discuss all the necessary elements you need to have a flurry of butterflies in your yard.

On June 20, 2018, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the Texas Health and Environmental Alliance will host a public meeting featuring two presentations: geologist Dr. Kathleen Garland will present her findings on the San Jacinto Waste Pits Superfund site post-Harvey, and researchers from Oregon State University will present findings from their post-Harvey wristband study. The meeting will be held at the Highlands/San Jacinto Community Center, 604 Highland Woods Drive, Highlands.
