On May 19, 2018, from 8 a.m.-noon, the public is invited to help set up the first of two tree farms at the new Houston Botanic Garden, 8205 N. Bayou Drive. This first public event at the garden is in partnership with Trees for Houston. Eventually, the 2-acre tree farm will consist of a variety of tree species and native trees including pines, oaks, magnolias and sycamores. Parking will be available in the clubhouse lot. On May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m.-noon, BikeHouston will host an Ambassador training meeting and ride starting at Emancipation Park. The training will start with a brief overview of proposed projects, your elected officials, and an introduction to tactical urbanism.The ride component of the training will be based on where you ride currently and where you’d like to ride, but don’t feel safe doing so now. Information will be recorded this information and relayed it to city and county officials to ensure what you need gets done. For more information and to register, visit bikehouston.org

Join Katy Prairie Conservancy and marvel at the vast, illuminated night skies of the Katy Prairie on the Indiangrass Preserve. The Fort Bend Astronomy Club will provide multiple indoor presentations throughout the event, telescopes for solar viewing in the late afternoon, and night sky viewing after dark. You will also have the opportunity for solar viewing before sunset. For those who wish to come to both, you will have the opportunity to take in one of the spectacular prairie sunsets while waiting for nighttime viewing.

Join us and jazz up your Saturday night!
The last of the Spring Bayou City Music Series, the May 19th lineup at The Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park features the full HSPVA Jazz Band; saxophonist Grady Gaines, who has recorded with Little Richard, Sam Cooke and many others; vocalist Trudy Lynn; and the ThunderSOUL Orchestra, a 14-piece orchestra featuring former students of Conrad Johnson from Kashmere High School, which was the subject of a 2011 documentary film.  Blankets for the lawn are encouraged and food trucks will be on site. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.Â
The Jones-Bender, Judy Overby Bell and Spring Creek Greenway trails are open for bicycling. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
All Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center programs and events are free of charge unless otherwise noted and open to the public regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, physical ability, national origin, or religion. Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in these programs should contact the nature center. Programs meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise noted. Solid shoes are recommended.
