Harris County Flood Control District
Under Russell “Russ†Poppe’s, P.E., direction, the District carries out its mission to devise countywide flood damage reduction plans, implement those plans, and maintain the infrastructure. That mission is executed in the third most populated county in the United States, with a population more than 4.5 million, which includes the City of Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city. The District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of about 1,500 channels, totaling 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins and a 2.5-square mile wetlands mitigation bank.

The AIA Houston Women in Architecture Committee’s first annual Equity Series: BIAS, kicks off by considering the role of unconscious bias in professional advancement.
The two-part series respectfully explores implicit bias by:
- Thoughtfully examining the current climate of bias in the AEC community
- Discussing perception of and barriers to equity
- Educating minorities, allies, and leaders on how to effectively foster workplace inclusivity
- Championing diversity in leadership
This informative series is for all! The panel discussion is open to the public, while the workshop targets anyone in the AEC community ready to be an agent for change in their workplace. Please spread the word about the event in your office, professional circle and community so we can make this event a success!Â

The UH Farmers Market allows students, staff and faculty to shop for locally sourced and produced food items without having to leave campus. Several new features are being added for the spring, one of which is a new payment option that will allow students to use Cougar Cash to purchase $1 “Cougar Cash Coins†that can be used at any of the vendor tables.
Also, a rotating selection of non-food vendors will be joining the mix, and UH Dining will have little surprises at each of the markets, such as barbecue plates for sale on Feb. 28 and Valentine’s Day treats on Feb. 14.
“We will continue to seek ways to grow the market and make it self-sustaining so that it can be a part of the campus culture for years to come,†Ross said.
