Tyke Hike SquareEncourage your child’s curiosity about nature and spend time with them exploring outdoors! Children 18 months to 3 years, with their adult companions, can join a naturalist for a story reading, a simple nature activity or craft, and a stroller-friendly hike on the beautiful Arboretum trails. Enjoy an interesting new nature experience each week with themes such as turtles, armadillos, spiders, and trees.

Please dress for weather. Tyke Hikes take place rain or shine. Closed-toe shoes are best for trail hikes. Older preschoolers are welcome but are the responsibility of the adult companion.

Journey down armadillo tunnels, learn how to echo-locate, and meet two of the most amazing Houston mammals as the group ventures into the night and see who’s awake out there. Tadpole Troopers is a nature class and outdoor adventure for parents and children to share together.

Leave your troubles at the door, and join us for a chill craft event, second Thursdays from 6-8pm. Bring what you’re making, and hang out with us while we’re making what we’re making. Knit, crochet, embroider, slow stitch, paint, draw, collage, quill, whittle — whatever. BYOB — light snacks provided. Must be over 18.

Saturdays in Nature program @ Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary

On the fourth Saturday of each month (September-May), Houston Audubon Docents lead a hands-on science program for families to participate in together. From building bird feeders to identifying backyard bugs, naturalists of all ages enjoy quality time outdoors, creative art projects, guided nature walks, and hands-on fun.
