City of Houston Climate Action Plan Meeting @ Southwest Multiservice Center

The City of Houston’s office of Sustainability, has begun drafting a Climate Action Plan. The goal is to create ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and establish a pathway to meet the Paris Agreement goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, while also decreasing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and reducing costs through energy efficiency and renewable energy. The target completion date for the Plan is December 2019, with implementation by the City to start in 2020. HARC, the Houston Advanced Research Center, is providing technical assistance.

The City has scheduled a set of four Community Meetings to give members of the public information about the Plan, as well as receive input.

Hermann Park Dog Park Public Meeting @ Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion at McGovern Centennial Gardens

Hermann Park Conservancy is excited to announce plans for an off-leash dog park. But first, they want your ideas! Join HPC for a public meeting on the Hermann Park dog park. Lauren Griffith Associates, the team behind the design of this project, will present on the initial plans for the park and be available to answer questions.

2019 Annual Meeting of the Upper Oyster Creek @ City of Sugar Land City Hall, Cane Room

The Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will be hosting a public meeting as part of an ongoing effort to address water quality issues in Upper Oyster Creek. They will discuss project progress over the last year, and ideas and plans for the future. Stakeholder participation is an important part of achieving success in these efforts, so they encourage you to share your successes, ideas, and feedback. Please come prepared to discuss any specific progress (events, programs, efforts, etc.) your organization has made in the last year.

HREG Monthly Meeting @ United Way-Greater Houston

HREG - Own Your PowerAll are welcome to Houston Renewable Energy Group’s monthly meetings! They will have a presentation on an interesting aspect of renewable energy in Houston, review HREG business, progress, and plan events. After the meeting, they usually spend some time socializing and finding out what is happening on the renewable scene in Houston from each other. Monthly Meetings are the best place for members to learn about HREG, ask questions, and provide suggestions.

Texas Watershed Stewardship Workshop @ Prairie View A&M Northwest Educational Bldg

The Texas Watershed Steward program is a free, educational workshop designed to help watershed residents improve and protect their water resources by getting involved in local watershed protection and management activities.

Free lunch starts at 12:00 for attendees that register by end-of-day, April 22nd

The workshop will provide an overview of water quality and watershed management in Texas, including a discussion on Cypress Creek and efforts by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and local stakeholders to help improve and protect it. Free continuing education credits offered for a wide variety of professional disciplines. HREG Solar Workshop @ TX/RX Labs

HREG - Own Your PowerThis free, monthly workshop addresses the basics on how to install and operate a solar system.  It covers topics such as solar array types, costs of equipment and labor, permitting, energy savings, and reliability. The instructor, Bill Swann, is an expert in solar energy and has built many of his own solar systems. This workshop is ideal for all people; Bill can answer the simplest and most technical of questions. If you want to learn more about solar, this is the workshop for you.
