The City of Houston’s office of Sustainability, has begun drafting a Climate Action Plan. The goal is to create ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and establish a pathway to meet the Paris Agreement goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, while also decreasing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and reducing costs through energy efficiency and renewable energy. The target completion date for the Plan is December 2019, with implementation by the City to start in 2020. HARC, the Houston Advanced Research Center, is providing technical assistance.
The City has scheduled a set of four Community Meetings to give members of the public information about the Plan, as well as receive input.
The Texas Watershed Steward program is a free, educational workshop designed to help watershed residents improve and protect their water resources by getting involved in local watershed protection and management activities.
Free lunch starts at 12:00 for attendees that register by end-of-day, April 22nd
The workshop will provide an overview of water quality and watershed management in Texas, including a discussion on Cypress Creek and efforts by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and local stakeholders to help improve and protect it. Free continuing education credits offered for a wide variety of professional disciplines. This free, monthly workshop addresses the basics on how to install and operate a solar system. It covers topics such as solar array types, costs of equipment and labor, permitting, energy savings, and reliability. The instructor, Bill Swann, is an expert in solar energy and has built many of his own solar systems. This workshop is ideal for all people; Bill can answer the simplest and most technical of questions. If you want to learn more about solar, this is the workshop for you. The Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office is soliciting applications for projects that address environmental concerns within the coastal zone and promote sustainable economic development. Texas Coastal Management Program (CMP) Cycle 25 involves a competitive pre-proposal process followed by an invitation-only final application submission. TCMP’s grant workshop will help you apply.
H-GAC’s Solid Waste Program is reimagining its past roundtable-style meetings into a new Solid Waste Workshop Series. This format will offer a more in-depth look at select solid waste topics, resulting in greater value for attendees.

The H-GAC Clean Waters Initiative Workshop Series returns on Feb. 26, 2019. The tentative topic will be funding sources for water and wastewater-related infrastructure.
Dates for the rest of the year are May 22, 2019; Wednesday, August 21, 2019; and Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Texas Wildlife Association’s free L.A.N.D.S. Outreach Teacher Workshops are open to all formal and informal educators. TWA will hold ten workshops this summer, beginning June 4, 2019,  throughout the Houston area. They will cover ways to introduce hands-on science programs into your classroom that relate to conservation, wildlife, and natural resources.
