In celebration of Earth Day, The Office of Sustainability at the University of Houston will host the 6th annual UH Sustainability Fest on campus. Sustainability Fest educates the UH campus community about sustainability initiatives on campus and in the Greater Houston region. On April 25, 2019, beginning at at 7 p.m., The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. is sponsoring a Going Green Sustainability Lecture by Mary Anne Weber, education director for Houston Audubon’s Raptor and Education Center, titled “Enraptured by Raptors: What Would We Do Without Them,” at the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), 8801 Gosling Road, The Woodlands. The City of Houston comes to the Kingwood twice a year to collect BOPA (Batteries, Oil, Paint, Anti-freeze) items. Come and recycle your rechargeable batteries, motor or cooking oil, old latex (water-based) paint buckets, antifreeze, scrap metal and major appliances. The DEA in cooperation with the Houston Police is offering a biannual safe prescription drugs disposal opportunity. Bring your old, unused and expired prescription and potentially dangerous OTC drugs to this collection event.

DEA launched its prescription drug take back program when both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration advised the public that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—posed potential safety and health hazards.
