Historic Houston’s Salvage Warehouse (Members Only) @ Salvage Warehouse

All of the material at Historic Houston’s Salvage Warehouse has been reclaimed from historic houses that Historic Houston has deconstructed, as well as individual items that have been brought to our Salvage Warehouse.  The Salvage Warehouse, now located at 1200 National, has become a regional resource for reclaimed building materials serving an 11 county region of Southeast Texas. Materials at the Salvage Warehouse include, but are not limited to, reclaimed wood flooring, windows and screens, interior/exterior doors and hardware, interior/exterior siding, paneling, and millwork, lumber, bath and kitchen fixtures, cabinetry, and exterior ironwork.

Salvage Warehouse is open to members on the first and third Saturdays. No appointments needed on Saturdays.

Due to limited staffing during the week, current members can chop at the Salvage Warehouse by appointment Tuesday – Friday between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members can schedule an appointment by calling 713-553-7035.

Houston Audubon Seniors Bus Trip @ Memorial City Mall

Houston Audubon books a bus every month for our Houston Audubon members who are 50 and over. They provide snacks, refreshments and an experienced tour guide at the destination.

Reservations are required and attendance will be limited to the bus capacity. The buses are provided by Precinct 3 free of charge. A small fee is charged by Houston Audubon to cover snacks, water, and any entry fee at destination. Participants will be required to sign Precinct 3 and HA liability release forms for the trip. Precinct 3 regulations require that all participants must be 50 years or older. Remember to bring your binoculars, insect protection, sturdy shoes, and rain gear if necessary. Senior bus trips depart from Memorial City Mall. You will receive directions and times when you register. Buses are kindly provided by Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Steve Radack. You will need to bring your lunch in a soft-sided container and Houston Audubon will provide snacks, cold water, and an ice chest for your drinks, since they will not have room for everyone to bring their own ice chest. Note that there is no restroom on the county buses.

Sunday, July 22, 2018: Challenger 7 Memorial Park and Lone Star Flight Museum

They will depart from Memorial City at 10AM and go birding at the memorial park before heading to museum for a tour.

Please note that if you register for the bus trip you must ride the bus unless you need to cancel ahead of time due to illness or conflict. If you prefer to meet the group at the destination please email Mary Anne Weber at maweber@houstonaudubon.org

Evergreen Volunteer Day @ Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Image result for Evergreen houston arboretumMembers of the Arboretum’s young professionals group, Evergreen, and their friends are invited to join the Arboretum’s conservation team for a fun morning removing invasive plants from our native habitats. Arrive early for breakfast bites starting at 8:30 a.m. RSVP required. Ages 18 and up.

Volunteers should wear close-toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Please bring a reusable water bottle – the Arboretum will have a cooler for refills. A hat, bug spray, and sunscreen are recommended.
