H-GAC Pharmaceutical Take Back @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

Come educate yourself on how you can become more environmentally responsible and recycle your tires.

Join H-GAC for the Parks and Natural Areas (PNA) Roundtable on Monday, September 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at H-GAC Conference Room A, Second Floor.

On the Agenda

  • Representatives from Asakura Robinson will give an overview of the award-winning MD Anderson Prairie project
  • Representatives from League City will give an overview of the award-winning Dr. Ned & Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center Management Plan
  • H-GAC staff will update the roundtable on activities, including the current awards and recognition program, the Facebook group, and the parks director survey

The PNA Roundtable serves as a forum for discussion of issues related to parks and natural areas, promotes the PNA Award Program, and maintains a regional inventory of parks. The PNA roundtable facilitates information exchange and planning efforts between various stakeholders and collaborators to protect and preserve parks and natural areas across the region.

Deadline: FHWA’s Environmental Excellence Awards

The Federal Highway Administration accepts nominations for any project, process, group, or individuals involved in a project or process that has used FHWA funding sources to make an outstanding contribution to transportation and the environment. Any organization, agency, group, or individual in the public, private, or non-profit sectors may submit a nomination for the 2019 EEAs. Nominations for the 2019 Environmental Excellence Awards are due by September 14, 2018.

Hurricane Harvey Talanoa Dialogues @ 1st Unitarian Universalist Church

Image result for texas impactYou are invited to participate in a unique roundtable discussion about the progress of Hurricane Harvey and the implications the recovery has for Houston’s future. Discussions are structured in a “Talanoa” framework. Talanoa is a traditional word used in Fiji and across the Pacific to reflect a process of inclusive, participatory, and transparent dialogue. The purpose of Talanoa is to share stories, build empathy and to make wise decisions for the collective good. The process of Talanoa involves the sharing of ideas, skills and experience through storytelling. For more information, visit sccucc.org.

Deadline: 2019 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards honor achievements in environmental preservation and protection. As the state’s highest environmental honor, the Office of the Governor and commissioners from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recognize outstanding projects from ten diverse categories such as agriculture, education, and youth. Since 1993, the TCEQ have honored more than 250 successful environmental projects and efforts. By honoring these winners, the TCEQ hopes to encourage others to initiate like-minded projects and reinforce a spirit of environmental stewardship. The TCEQ is accepting applications until September 28, 2018.

Deadline: H-GAC’s Parks and Natural Areas (PNA) Awards

Parks and Natural Areas logoThe Houston-Galveston Area Council seeks to recognize projects that expand parks and natural areas for improved quality of life, habitat, and water quality. Winning projects, which exhibit efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation, serve as models to be replicated throughout the region. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on September 28, 2018.

PNA awards honor projects in four categories:

  1. Projects Over $500,000;
  2. Projects Under $500,000;
  3. Planning Process; and
  4. Policy Tools.

Winning entries serve as models for planning and project implementation for parks and natural areas in the region. Winners will be notified in December, and the awards ceremony and half-day parks event will be in February 2019.
