Thanks to TXU Energy, the Houston Zoo is staying open late, so you can enjoy the animals in the cooler evening weather. Join us for Evening Chill every Friday & Saturday evening from June 22 through August 18. From 5 to 8 p.m. guests can enjoy added music and fun family activities that are sure to entertain kids and adults alike! All activities are included in Zoo admission and are free for Zoo Members.

Last entry into the zoo at 7.30pm.

Looking for a cool discount? All summer long, save $4 on regular Zoo admission (adult and child tickets!) when you arrive after 4 p.m.

Benefit Concert for Climate Change @ 1st Unitarian Universalist Church

Houston Peace & Justice Center

Project Drawdown researched 100 different movements to help our climate. They found that curbing population growth is a significant part, 11%, of the solution.

The Climate Action Team of First Unitarian Universalist Church will host Traveler in a concert on Saturday, September 22, at the Church at 5200 Fannin. Traveler is a well-known three-member group of local folk/rock/blues singer-songwriters. Pay what you can but the suggested donation is $20. Proceeds will be donated to Clinic Access and the Malala Fund, both of which combat climate change by helping to stabilize the population. Blackwood LandBlackwood Land is delighted to announce the first-annual Blackwood Harvest Hoedown, an immersive farm experience celebrating land, food, and community. Hoedown guests will enjoy curated classes and demonstrations from vendors (for adults and youth alike) as well as strolling through the Harvest Market to shop a variety of local goods.  A farm-fresh lunch is included, followed by a keynote presentation and musical performances. Adults can enjoy crafted beer and specialty wines in the Bier Garten while the Kid Zone provides a supervised area with activities for young explorers to have fun and learn about nature.

Deadline: State of the Air High School Essay Contest

Air Alliance Houston’s State of the Air holds a high school essay contest open to students in 9-12th grade. Top three winners will receive a scholarship. Deadline: Apprentice Ecologist Scholarship

The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative awards three scholarships to the authors of the three best Apprentice Ecologist essays. Applicants should embody the spirit of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative by demonstrating personal leadership and environmental stewardship in their project. Middle school, high school, or undergraduate college/university students (ages 13-21) are eligible to apply.

The deadline for this scholarship is Dec. 31, 2018.

Deadline: EPP Undergraduate Scholarship Program

The goal of the EPP Undergraduate Scholars Program is to increase the number of students who undertake course work and graduate with degrees in targeted academic fields integral to NOAA’s mission. This program targets students who have completed their sophomore year, attending minority serving institutions (MSIs), and have recently declared, or about to declare a major in atmospheric, oceanic, or environmental disciplines that support these sciences.

The deadline for this scholarship is Jan. 31, 2019.
