Come celebrate Artist Boat’s 15th birthday! Artist Boat is thrilled to have served over 100,000 participants and to have conserved 669 acres of land on Galveston Island. At the annual Float the Boat Fundraiser and Gala, Artist Boat will honor Sheridan Mitchell Lorenz. The fundraiser will also feature a kayak raffle, auction, and more.

Saturday, November 10th the Bayou Land Conservancy (BLC) will celebrate 22 years
of preserving Texas, for Texans, at a Land Lover Gala hosted by Southwestern Energy
at 10000 Energy Drive in Spring, south of The Woodlands. SWN is providing space for the event and also a Lake Houston sponsorship to support the mission of BLC.
Keynote speaker will be acclaimed Director of the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores, Dr. Sam Brody, a Regents Professor and holder of the George P. Mitchell Chair in Sustainable Coasts in the Department of Marine Sciences and Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University.  Dr. Brody’s research focuses on coastal environmental planning, spatial analysis, flood mitigation, climate change policy, and natural hazards mitigation. He has published numerous scientific articles on flood risk and mitigation, and recently authored the book, Rising Waters:
The causes and consequences of flooding in the United States.

Escape from the frenzy of the start of the “Christmas shopping season†on an intimate, 24-hour retreat in the beauty of God’s good creation at the Cramer Retreat Center in Spring. This retreat invites you to get ready for the coming of Christ by exploring familiar Advent themes: hope, preparation, joy and peace, with the reconciliation of heaven and earth in mind. Consider how all creation longs for the coming of Christ, and how we are called to witness the Incarnation in our care of all God’s created world and all God’s creatures. Enjoy a time of renewal, reflection, recreation, and restoration on this retreat. The retreat is open to adults, and to youth 10+, when accompanied by an adult. Thank you for your interest in the “All aboard! There’s a place for you in the maritime community!â€Â Art Contest sponsored by the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of the American States (CIP-OAS). We welcome submissions from students enrolled in grades K-12 living in the Americas (North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean). Students living outside the Americas are welcome to apply, provided they have one or more parents on active duty with the U. Students are asked to submit an original poster that creatively depicts ways to embrace diversity and inclusion in the maritime community and highlight the broad range of opportunities the industry has to offer. The theme reflects the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2019 World Maritime Day Theme. Students should submit an original artwork that based on the contest theme description below:
Seaborn transportation is one of the oldest industries—and the most exciting! More than 90% of the world’s goods and energy travel by ship! The diversity of opportunities in the maritime industry is as diverse as the ocean itself. Seafaring is an exciting career that allows you to travel the world and absorb different cultures. You can also become a successful member of the marine industry without ever getting your feet wet! An opportunity to be a maritime lawyer, accountant, engineer, medical professional, or scientist, could be in your future!
The marine industry is evolving. Now, more than ever, there are technical training and education programs available to people of all backgrounds to ensure a rewarding career in the maritime sector. Today, many people are finding more opportunities in leadership, administrative, and decision-making roles in addition to seafaring jobs.
Successful members of the marine industry can come from any educational, geographic, or cultural background. Can you think of a way to embrace diversity in the marine industry, either on a ship or in a shore-side role? Or, if you’ve ever thought about pursuing a career in the marine industry, can you artistically show us how? Students are asked to submit an original poster depicting creative and imaginative ideas about how to make shipping more inclusive, or how they can chart a future in the maritime industry.

2018 Gala Recap: On Friday, April 27, 2018, more than 505 guests coolly collected in their California casual attire in the heart of Hermann Park for Hermann Park Conservancy’s annual Evening in the Park gala. Accompanied by spectacular weather, co-chairs Bonner and George Ball, Janet Gurwitch and Ron Franklin, and Dancie and Jim Ware, evoked serious beachy-vibes for their “California Dreaming†themed evening, which far surpassed the evening’s fundraising goal, ultimately bringing in $525,450 to support the Conservancy’s stewardship and improvement efforts for Houston’s 445-acre Hermann Park.
This year, Katy Prairie Conservancy will honor Mr. Forrest Wylie, an avid conservationist whose passion for preserving the outdoors led to his donation of a conservation easement on the 5,332-acre Spread Oaks Ranch. The opportunity to preserve coastal prairie on this scale is significant, and the Katy Prairie Conservancy is thrilled to recognize this important contribution which preserves the Spread Oaks Ranch for present and future generations.
The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards honor achievements in environmental preservation and protection. As the state’s highest environmental honor, the Office of the Governor and commissioners from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recognize outstanding projects from ten diverse categories. This year’s gala is the most important fundraising event of Houston Audubon’s landmark 50th Anniversary. Gala proceeds will benefit the organization in its work to ensure special natural places, critical habitat, and resilient bird populations will be a legacy for future generations to enjoy.
For the past 50 years, Houston Audubon has been the voice for birds, and they’ve served the Houston-Gulf Coast region through land conservation, habitat restoration, education and advocacy. At this year’s gala, they will celebrate Houston Audubon’s journey, its achievements, and the dedicated donors, volunteers, staff, and partners whose collective efforts have led us to being the regional avian conservation leader they are today.
