Free to attend, donations appreciated. Work on your bird watching skills while helping the Arboretum monitor bird populations on a fun, relaxed morning walk. Join the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center on the second Saturday of each month at the front door of the building for a two-hour bird walk led by Kelsey Low and Theo Ostler, a resident bird enthusiast. We welcome all levels of bird watching skill and all ages (as long as you’re quiet) – but no dogs, please! If you have binoculars of your own, please bring them. Meet count leader Jason Bonilla in the parking lot of Woodland Park. Please note that the park does not have a maintained trail system. As such, there is a lot of poison ivy that is somewhat unavoidable when walking the park and looking for birds. Additionally, there are terrain changes and unstable areas. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. They usually meet on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Late Fall Migration Birding Trip
November 6th – Late Fall Migration Along the Texas Coast
Join Cin-Ty Lee and Mary Ann Beauchemin on a trip to the Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary and Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. They will be on the lookout for fall migrating songbirds, shorebirds and waterfowl. They will begin along the immediate coast, checking patches of vegetation at Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary for migrating songbirds. They will then bird along the beach looking for gulls and shorebirds, and if the conditions of the spoils are good, they will be afforded to many shorebirds. After lunch, they will head to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, where they will continue looking for shorebirds, waterfowl, sparrows, raptors and more.
Join them on Saturday, November 6 from 10am-2pm at Exploration Green in celebrating the important role Houston plays in the lives of billions of birds!
Bring cameras, binoculars, water, and walking shoes for birding! There are no restrooms onsite. Bring chairs or a blanket to picnic on the grass!

Bring the whole family to Gulf Coast bird Observatory for an introduction to birding. Attendees will get to see some birds up close during bird banding, then learn the basics of bird anatomy and bird watching. They will end the day with a nature walk on our beautiful trails.
