Masks are optional for vaccinated participants and social distancing is recommended. Please wear a mask if unvaccinated. Please contact Julie Francis at hermannparkbirdsurvey@gmail.com if you’d like to participate. The Hermann Park Survey is conducted on the second Monday of the month. Everyone is welcome — beginners, experts, or even if you’re just curious. Please bring binoculars. If you don’t have any, let them know in advance and they’ll provide them.

Memorial Park 101: Summer Blooms @ Memorial Park Conservancy

Summer is a really beautiful season in Memorial Park! Join our staff for a free hour long walk highlighting some of the stunning flowers that bloom during the hottest time of year. Participants should expect to walk about 1-2 miles on potentially uneven surfaces, please wear comfortable closed-toed walking shoes and bring water. Meet at the Cullen Running Trails Center at 6pm.

Woodland Park Bird Survey @ Woodland Park

Meet count leader Jason Bonilla in the parking lot of Woodland Park. Please note that the park does not have a maintained trail system. As such, there is a lot of poison ivy that is somewhat unavoidable when walking the park and looking for birds. Additionally, there are terrain changes and unstable areas. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. They usually meet on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Galveston Historical Foundation’s Marine Biology Tour @ 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA at the Texas Seaport Museum

The Marine Biology Tour provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to observe dolphins and other species in their natural habitat, trawl for and handle marine organisms, study plankton through a microscopic lens, and explore Galveston Bay’s rich history. This unique experience takes place on board the SEAGULL II, a 50’ catamaran which docks at the Texas Seaport Museum, and is led by a marine biologist.

Located in the historic port of Galveston, the Texas Seaport Museum is home to the 1877 ELISSA and also tells the story of a rich legacy of seaborne commerce and immigration. To register visit www.eventbrite.com/e/
