Let the winter adventures begin! Discover how woodland creatures adapt to cooler weather. Seek out animal tracks and clues along the trails and creek banks. Learn winter survival skills. Make cozy dens for education animals. Create nature crafts and science projects to take home, including snow slime.

Goosebumps & Mysteries

Come unravel nature’s mysteries as Houston Arboretum explores creatures of the night, creepy crawlies and the folklore that surrounds them. Learn about bats, owls and other mysterious creatures of the animal world. Live animal encounters, outdoor games, nature hikes, and lots of hands-on fun science activities are always a part of the Arboretum experience. Winter Camp is for explorers ages 4 to 12.

Join Buffalo Bayou Partnership for Texas’ largest canoe and kayak race – the 47th Annual Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta on March 9th. Paddlers, ages 12 and up, are encouraged to participate in the 15-mile race along the scenic Buffalo Bayou. Whether you are entering competitively or paddling for pleasure, you won’t want to miss out on this longstanding Houston tradition.

Join American Institute of Architects, Houston chapter, for this annual fundraiser benefiting the Architecture Center Houston Foundation. Your support will enhance the foundation’s continued efforts to bring awareness, understanding, and appreciation of architecture and urban design to the community. 2018 Gala Recap: On Friday, April 27, 2018, more than 505 guests coolly collected in their California casual attire in the heart of Hermann Park for Hermann Park Conservancy’s annual Evening in the Park gala. Accompanied by spectacular weather, co-chairs Bonner and George Ball, Janet Gurwitch and Ron Franklin, and Dancie and Jim Ware, evoked serious beachy-vibes for their “California Dreaming” themed evening, which far surpassed the evening’s fundraising goal, ultimately bringing in $525,450 to support the Conservancy’s stewardship and improvement efforts for Houston’s 445-acre Hermann Park.

This year, Katy Prairie Conservancy will honor Mr. Forrest Wylie, an avid conservationist whose passion for preserving the outdoors led to his donation of a conservation easement on the 5,332-acre Spread Oaks Ranch. The opportunity to preserve coastal prairie on this scale is significant, and the Katy Prairie Conservancy is thrilled to recognize this important contribution which preserves the Spread Oaks Ranch for present and future generations.

The family-friendly offerings with hands-on-topics are free with regular admission. Enjoy a fun, educational outing; then stay to picnic, bird, hike, fish or just relax.

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards honor achievements in environmental preservation and protection.
