Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off @ Sugarland Memorial Park

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful is holding their 26th annual Trash-Off on Saturday, April 6, 2019. We hope you will help us keep Sugar Land beautiful! Registration form needs to be submitted to KSLB by March 8 . Please see complete, sign, and submit the 2019 Registration Waiver.  If you are a group leader, please collect the registration waiver from each person in your group and submit them to vickigist@kslb.org with your completed group registration spreadsheet.   All volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a registered participating adult. Volunteers will be assigned to pick up litter at designated sites in Sugar Land and should allow approximately two hours for cleanup. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation to the meeting site and to their assigned cleanup site. Last year, KSLB volunteers picked up over 2,049 pounds of litter during our Trash-Off!

Interfaith Environmental Stewardship Event @ Willow Waterhole Greenspace

Calling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment during Earth Month & Faith Climate Action Week! You will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship by mulching around plantings, planting native plants & removing trash at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve. This event will offer activities for all ages and skill levels, so bring the whole family, your neighbors and your friends. Meet at The Gathering Place, 5310 South Willow Dr., Houston 77035 to sign in. Tools/supplies will be provided. The conservancy requires signing of a waiver to participate.

Beautify the Bucket 2019 @ Menard Park

The Beautify the Bucket Competition allows participants to take an active role in beautifying Galveston beaches and improving stewardship behaviors. Participants in the competition paint a blue trash barrel destined for Galveston beaches based on a theme: ocean organisms, marine debris, coastal and marine ecosystems, or Galveston recreational activities. After the competition the barrels will be added to Galveston’s beaches where they will be enjoyed by visitors and encourage proper disposal of trash to reduce aquatic trash.

Competitions are hosted to coincide with the Adopt-A-Beach Coast-wide Cleanup events.

2019 competition dates are:

  • Saturday April 13th, 2019

Individuals and groups of all ages can register for a barrel to beautify. Registration for the Spring 2019 Beautify the Bucket is Monday, February 18th-Monday, March 18th, 2019. For more information download the registration and information packet >>>

Exploration Green’s Spring Planting Workday

Volunteers are needed for tree maintenance and repotting. Tasks run from light to heavy, and there are opportunities for anyone ages ten and up.

When: the second and last Saturday of every month, 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Where: the green space behind 1801 Neptune Lane, Houston, TX 77062—park on the street, near the bridge, and take the paved trail heading northeast. The nursery is visible from the street.

What to bring: work gloves, mud boots (if you have them), insect repellant, sunscreen, and water.

Texas Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup @ various locations

Texas Adopt-A-Beach 2019 Coastwide Spring CleanupJoin Texas Adopt-a-Beach for a coastwide spring cleanup on the Texas coast. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cleanup begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of drinking water. Adopt-A-Beach will provide all necessary materials.

Keep Houston Beautiful Day

We are very happy to have a rescheduled date of Saturday, May 4, 2019 . We will reach out to currently registered teams to secure supply and tool requests for the new date for KHB DAY. This change in plans brings about the opportunity to continue having volunteers register for your teams.

Keep Houston Beautiful is the city’s leading organization in beautification, litter reduction, and recycling education. For 40 years, Keep Houston Beautiful has been reaching out to all segments of our community to educate and empower individuals to take greater responsibility for beautifying and enhancing Houston’s environment. Every year’s successes have created a cleaner and healthier city for all Houstonians.
