Solid Waste and Recycling Workshops: Regional Recycling Roundtable @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

As landfill space and raw materials become scarcer, recycling of used materials becomes a more cost-effective and sensible option. Periodically H-GAC hosts workshops to bring new ideas and knowledge to local governments on a wide range of recycling-related topics.

Regional Recycling Roundtable

The next roundtable will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018, in H-GAC Conference Room A, Second Floor.

The topic is Composting as a recycling strategy. Presentations will include:

  • Trends and Status in Commercial Composting
  • Municipality Case Study
  • Master Composter Overview

Bringing Back Main Street Roundtable @ Brazoria County Historical Museum

The City of Angleton will host the next Bringing Back Main Street Revitalization roundtable meeting at the Brazoria County Historical Museum. During this roundtable, participants will hear information on meeting building codes and regulations when renovating older buildings in downtowns. The presentation will be followed by a tour of two renovated buildings in downtown Angleton. H-GAC hosts quarterly roundtables to help local governments, chambers of commerce, and economic development interests promote the economic revitalization of downtown areas. Online RSVP is requested.

Bringing Back Main Street Roundtable @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

Bringing Back Main Street LogoThe Bringing Back Main Street initiative offers local communities a place to share best practices and engage in a regional dialogue about revitalizing and supporting vibrant downtown spaces. Each quarter, community leaders gather for a roundtable on topics ranging from small business support to sidewalk infrastructure. These ongoing roundtables add to the knowledge shared during a 2015 workshop series.

Save the date for H-GAC’s next Bringing Back Main Street Roundtable. The location and topic are to be determined.

Winter Meeting of Environmental Educators’ Exchange @ Nature Discovery Center
Feb 6 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Join Citizens’ Environmental Coalition as they visit the Hannah and Arthur Ginsbarg Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire. There will be a guided tour outside and a chance to view major renovations that were completed recently. They will visit the pocket priarie, deciduous woodlands, prairie wetland, and cypress pond in Russ Pitman Park; nature play area; and Critter Classroom. On the tour, you will learn about environmental education initiatives at a mainstay of environmental education inside the loop. The last part of the meeting is our traditional EEE Round-table Forum where members and attendees introduce themselves, their programs, make announcements and discuss challenges and successes in environmental education.

Texas Stream Team Training @ Buffalo Bayou Partnership

H-GAC is planning three Texas Stream Team Phase I and II volunteer water quality monitor training sessions across the region. This training is open to volunteers interested in conducting water quality monitoring in the greater Houston-Galveston area. Both Phase I and Phase II of the training will be completed in this one-day training session. This training is limited to 10 participants. 

Currently more than 400 Texas Stream Team volunteers, including about 100 in the Houston-Galveston region, collect important water quality data on lakes, rivers, and streams as part of this statewide program.

Urban Riparian and Stream Restoration Training @ South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center
