This Monday meeting will be about climate change, its impact on the world and Houston, and what we can do about it. Speaker Dr. Daniel Cohan is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University. His research specializes in atmospheric modeling to inform environmental decision-making. In addition to his peer-reviewed publications, he writes for The Hill, The Conversation, and Houston Chronicle. Dr. Cohan received a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry from Georgia Tech, and served as a Fulbright Scholar to Australia. He is a recipient of an NSF CAREER award and was a member of the NASA Air Quality Applied Sciences Team.

They will have a presentation on an interesting aspect of renewable energy in Houston, review HREG business, progress, and plan events. After the meeting, they usually spend some time socializing and finding out what is happening on the renewable scene in Houston from each other. The purpose of this new H-GAC-facilitated workgroup is to bring together education and outreach partners and staff from local governments of all sizes, water quality nonprofit organizations, drainage and utility districts, MUDs, HOAs, schools, civic groups, and interested residents to facilitate more comprehensive coordination and implementation of stormwater quality education and outreach in four coastal counties (Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, and Matagorda counties).

Caney Creek/ Linville Bayou (Basin 13)

H-GAC and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality invite area stakeholders to help create a plan to reduce high concentrations of bacteria found in two coastal basins. This meeting is to discuss sources of bacteria, to form committees to consider options to reduce bacteria, and to develop plans to act on those options are scheduled for two of the impacted watersheds.

Maybe you don’t want to know. If you do, this session is for you. Manufacturers and everyone utilizing manufactured items put chemicals in the air, water, and the very goods they sell or dispose of. Some of these chemicals are dangerous to life and create unintended consequences.

H-GAC and project partners will kick off the International Management District Livable Centers Study this month. The study will analyze existing conditions in the boundaries of the International Management District and make recommendations that guide future land use and transportation investments in the area. Specifically, the study seeks to identify ways that the district can create a more walkable, mixed-use, transit-served neighborhood that is both a destination and a great place to live, work, and play.
