Nature Revealed: Fascinating Fish (12+) @ Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

In their mysterious underwater world, fish must use amazing and bizarre adaptations to survive. They breathe water, change color, generate deadly jolts of electricity – and some communicate by farting. In this class, students will explore the incredible variety and strange features of fish using specimens and live animals. They will also do some pond dipping to see fish in their natural habitat.

AIA’s ArCH Walking Tour: Urban Art @ Market Square Park

This series of tours will look at public art, architecture, place making and urban planning in Houston. Each new tour will focus on a small walkable section of Houston.

Downtown Part 1 includes Market Square Park, Buffalo Bayou and areas West of Main St. Artists featured on this tour include Mel Chin, Paul Kittleson, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg and Dean Ruck.

Meets in the NE Corner of Market Square Park. Street, lot and garage parking are available in the area.

Cooking with Honey (16+) @ Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

What’s the sweetest way to support bees and local business? Cook with local honey! In this class, you’ll get to taste different kinds of local honey and explore different ways to use them. Learn how to make grapefruit sage honey mimosas, honey butter, and a savory cheese and honey appetizer. You’ll even get to take home some sage and honey syrup for your own pantry.

Notes: Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Ages: 16 and up (21+ to drink)

Natural History Demonstration @ Armand Bayou Nature Center

Saturdays in Nature program @ Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary

On the fourth Saturday of each month (September-May), Houston Audubon Docents lead a hands-on science program for families to participate in together. From building bird feeders to identifying backyard bugs, naturalists of all ages enjoy quality time outdoors, creative art projects, guided nature walks, and hands-on fun.

4th Saturday Nature Walks @ Edith L. Moore Natural Sanctuary_

Join Houston Audubon for a free nature walk at Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary, September through May on the 4th Saturday of the month.

Meet at the Edith Moore Cabin at 2 p.m.

Please note that in November and December, the walk will be on the third Saturday.
