Held on the “2nd Saturdays†of each month, they will enjoy a delicious vegan potluck and meeting, along with a discussion, film screening, food demo or speaker presentation on intersectional issues of veganism, animal rights, environmentalism, nonviolence, health and more. Each month will be something new! Their new venue is at the HCC Conference Center.
They are asking for a donation of $5 per person to help cover our facility rental expenses. All attendees must bring a vegan entree to share at the potluck (serving size to feed 10 people)!
Please remember to bring a vegan dish to share with the group! Their events are always vegan, so please only vegan or raw vegan foods (no animal-derived ingredients). Also bring reusable dinnerware and plates to keep the event earth-friendly. If you have questions on ingredients, feel free to contact them.
They will also feature a new discussion topic on inter sectional issues each month, such as: animal rights, ethical vegan living, vegan health & nutrition, cooking, world hunger solutions, eco-friendly living, nonviolence and more! Some months will also include film screenings and/or guest speakers and food demos.

Free Parking is available on level 7 & 8 of the HCC Administration parking garage at Main & Elgin. Use elevator from parking garage to 3rd floor breezeway, which leads to the Conference suites. You must enter the building through the parking garage and not street-level.

HOUSTON—Area composting enthusiasts who want to enhance their skills and spread the sustainable practice can become a Master Composter through a training hosted by the City of Houston Green Building Resource Center, Thursday September 21 through Sunday September 24, 2017. The Yard Wise Master Composter Certificate Program, administered by the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling, offers an in-depth course featuring a team of experienced Houston professionals. At the end of the training, Master Composters will be able to make a worm bed, create “compost recipes†for specific plants, and help others embrace the environmental benefits of composting. Offered at the Houston Permitting Center at 1002 Washington Ave., the 4-day program includes classroom work, field trips and lectures from a flurry of guest speakers.
Registration is $40 and seating is limited to 20 participants. Interested composters can learn more or enroll online at codegreenhouston.org or by contacting Steve Stelzer at 832-394-9050 or steve.stelzer@houstontx.gov.
Architecture Center Houston is recruiting volunteers to train and serve as docents for our walking and bicycle tours. Training will take place Saturdays, 8:00 AM to noon, September 23 through October 14, 2017. Tours are offered Saturdays, 10:00 AM to noon, and select Thursdays, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, September through May. Docents are asked to lead 3 to 6 tours during the season or more, if they are interested. Additional time is required for preparation and practice. This varies for each individual and can be done on their own schedule.
Content and public speaking skills are covered in training. An architecture background is not required, but a strong interest is preferred. Qualified volunteers are able to practice and lead a 2 hour tour for groups of 10 – 15 people.

The sixth annual Texas Fruit Conference offers Basic Training for New Growers, Pesticide CEU Program for growers needing to keep their pesticide license up to date, and a Disscussion of the Future of Fruit Growing in Texas.
Conference Conveners: Monte Nesbitt, Larry Stein and Jim Kamas from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
