Description: Galveston FeatherFest is one of the premiere birding festivals in the
southeastern U.S. The ninth annual event is set for April 7 – 10. Serious
birders looking to add to their life list, nature enthusiasts just getting
started, and photographers at all skill levels will want to reserve their
spot early.

A record 210 species of birds were sighted during last year’s festival.
Galveston is one of the top locations in the country for birding because it
hosts a wide variety of habitats in a small geographical area where some 300 species make their permanent or temporary home throughout the year. The Island also sits astride the 95th meridian, the dead center of trans-Gulf
migration routes.

There will be something for everyone at FeatherFest 2011, whether you’re a novice or experienced outdoor lover. Excursions by bus, boat or kayak will visit a variety of habitats, from beaches to bays, bay marshes to wetlands, and coastal prairies to upland wood mottes. The highly successful Photo Fest, our new track of photography programs, will be even bigger and better!
