1. GreenWeek Houston. GreenWeek Houston is taking place from October 10th to the 17th. It celebrates community service, climate awareness, sustainable choices and the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to preserve, conserve and enhance the city. 2. 2011 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards. TCEQ has extended the application deadline for the 2011 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards. This is an opportunity for organizations to receive well-deserved recognition. The deadline is October 15. Applications can be submitted at http://www.teea.org/apply.htm.
3. Outstanding Student Nomination. Education in Action is calling for nominations of students from 4th to 8th grade for their week long leadership camp tour during spring break and summer. The deadline for nominations is November 19. Nominations may be made online at http://www.educationinaction.org/~eiatx84/educators/nominations.php.
4. “Texas Legacy Project: Stories of Courage and Conservation.” The Conservation History Association of Texas is delighted to announce the publication of a book, The Texas Legacy Project:  Stories of Courage and Conservation, edited by David Todd and David Weisman, featuring excerpts from more than 60 narrators, and by Texas A&M Press. 5. Upper Kirby Civic Center Placemaking Workshop. You are invited to participate in a visioning workshop about transforming the public spaces and streets around the new Upper Kirby Civic Center into a great civic destination.
