- 2nd Annual Community GreenFest. The event will feature music from all over the world, spoken word, dance and drumming as well as workshops and speakers including, Colin Beavan, the No Impact Man, Meriwether the Adventurer (a wild edibles expert from Houston) and one of our partners, Dan Phillips, recently named the number one recycler in American by Reader’s Digest Magazine. - HPD Youth-PAC Garden Patch Project. On October 23, the Youth Police Advisory Council (YPAC) will partner with Re-Ward Third Ward Inc. and Texas Southern University in planning an urban garden(Zion Urban Garden). Zion Urban Garden, 3210 Webster at Tierwester, will benefit the senior citizens and underprivileged within the community. Volunteers are welcome. Zion Urban Garden, 3210 Webster at Tierwester. - New Texas Water Journal. The Texas Water Resources Institute and The Texas Water Journal, a nonprofit organization, announce publication of the inaugural issue of an online, peer-reviewed journal that is devoted to Texas water resources management and policy issues. The Texas Water Journal provides in-depth analysis of Texas water resources management and policies from a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates science, engineering, law, planning, and other disciplines. - October 14: Yellow–Moderate. Winds may be light enough and background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Moderate” levels on the south side of the Houston.
- October 15: Orange–Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Winds may be light enough and background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Unhealthy for sensitive groups” on the south, southwest, and west side of the Houston area.
- October 16: Orange–Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Winds may be light enough and background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Unhealthy for sensitive groups” on the east and northeast side of the Houston area.
- On October 7, 8, and 9, TCEQ issued Air Pollution Warnings – Level Orange for ozone levels unhealthy for sensitive groups in the Houston-Galveston-Brazoria areas. On October 9, TCEQ issued Air Pollution Warnings – Level Red for ozone levels unhealthy for sensitive groups in the Houston-Galveston-Brazoria areas.
