Buffalo Bayou Closer to Being Named a National Heritage Area
At a press conference last week, Congressman Gene Green announced that the National Park Service has determined that a National Heritage Area designation is suitable and feasible for Buffalo Bayou. Once passed, the bill will designate the 25-mile bayou stretch from central Houston to the Houston Chip Channel as the first National Heritage Area in Texas. This designation will also allow up to $1 million annually for 10 years for tourism and education activities. The NPS report is available for public comment until May 21, 2010. Visit the NPS website to view this report.
