Description: On Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in Houston, Texas, the National Wildlife Federation will host Be Out There: A National Summit on Children and the Outdoors (http://www.nwf.org/summit). The summit is for anyone interested in state and federal policy solutions to connect children with nature.

At the summit we will hear from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, and other national leaders. There will be breakout sessions on inspiring kids with outdoor programs, building partnerships, and advocacy background and strategies. We will also have a panel discussion entitled, “New Partners and Innovative Strategies to Combat the Indoor Childhood.” This panel will explore opportunities to engage community planners, health professionals, and recreation leaders.

This is a good opportunity to get an overview of the latest state and federal policy developments on the issue, and to help us to continue to build momentum. Thank you for giving this your attention, and thank you for all that you do to connect children with nature.
