ORANGE YA GLAD ITS CITRUS SEASON?

The Bayou City Farmers’ Market is celebrating the local citrus season at this Saturday’s Farmers’ Market with a Citrus Festival. Let your senses feast on all manner of citrus decadence. Taste (and buy) a variety of locally grown citrus fruits, including varieties that are rarely available in stores. There will be recipe demonstrations, local authors selling and autographing their garden books, plus the usual, outstanding, farmer’s market fare. The Bayou City Farmers Market happens each Saturday from 8 am to noon and each Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at 3000 Richmond at Eastside (between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway), in the back parking lot behind the building.

If you are in the market for a fruit tree, there will be “citrus professors” on hand to give you information on how to grow your own citrus trees, and which trees are suitable for Houston’s climate. Many locally-suited trees will be for sale at Urban Harvest’s annual fruit tree sale on January 19th. For detailed information about the tree sale, see Urban Harvest’s website.
