BIRDS AND BATS ON THE BAYOU SATURDAY
Student volunteers from UH-Downtown and HISD will conserve and restore bird and bat habitats along the banks of the Buffalo and White Oak Bayous at Main Street and around the University of Houston-Downtown on Saturday, November 17. Habitat restoration work, such as removing invasive species, cleaning up litter, planting native plant, and sowing wildflowers seeds, will go on from 8:30 to 11:30 am. Volunteers will meet under the UHD Metrorail Station and Main Street Bridge.In the afternoon, there will be environmental lectures at UH-Downtown from noon to 3 pm. Pesticides 101 will be presented by Charlotte Wells, Texans for Alternatives to Pesticides; Green Building will be presented by Kathleen English, English and Associates Architects; and the Effects of Global Warming on Houston will be presented by LaVerne Williams, Environment Associates.
