    “The Galveston Bay Foundation partnered with a private landowner in Brazoria County to permanently protect a 1,100 acre working farm by purchasing a conservation easement. This easement allows the landowner to continue ongoing farming and ranching operations while restricting future subdivision, development, and other land uses that may have negative environmental impacts. Lone Pine Farm encompasses riparian wetlands, bottomland hardwood forest, native pasture, and prime working agricultural lands within the West Galveston Bay watershed.”

    “If last year didn’t feel like the hottest in Texas, scientists who released the latest temperature data would agree. They found the eastern half of the United States — including most of Texas — actually had slightly below average temperatures. But for just about every place else in the world, 2014 was the hottest ever recorded since 1880. At Rice University, ocean scientist John Anderson says in Texas, what proves global warming is happening isn’t so much the temperatures… Anderson says the science is clear: Humans are causing global warming. But in Texas, state leaders from the governor on down have denied a definitive connection and fought efforts to reduce industrial pollution linked to warming.”

    “CenterPoint Energy, Arbor Day Foundation and Trees For Houston are once again joining forces to provide the Energy-Saving Trees program, helping consumers reduce energy consumption and potentially save money on their electric bills. Studies have shown that the right trees planted in the right place (not planted under power lines) can reduce electricity use up to 30 percent by providing summer shade and slowing cold winter winds. As part of the program, CenterPoint Energy will offer two free trees per registrant reserved through an online process.”
