Armand Bayou Nature Center seeks Stewardship Program Director
Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC), a 2,800-acre nonprofit nature preserve in Pasadena, Texas, is seeking a
Stewardship Program Director. This position is a member of the senior management team and reports directly to the
Executive Director. The Stewardship Program Director is responsible for the oversight and management of all natural
resource management activities at Armand Bayou Nature Center, including wildlife management, habitat restoration
and environmental monitoring.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have demonstrated expertise and experience with wetland/rangeland restoration and management and the flora, fauna and ecology of coastal Texas.
- Degree in relevant field (biology, ecology, environmental science) preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with health and safety compliance.
- Ability to communicate ABNC’s mission and values to diverse audiences through presentations and articles.
- Supervision and project management experience.
- Ability to organize, lead, and participate in projects, set goals, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with PC computing. Prior experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) a plus.
- Experience using ATV’s and farm equipment, hand tools, shop tools, power tools, and large machinery.
- Ability to safely perform physical indoor and outdoor work, sometimes under adverse conditions in all kinds of weather and in remote locations.
DUTIES: - Organize, supervise, and participate in habitat restoration activities, including prairie mowing, prescribed burning, native plant introduction, invasive species control, and wetland restoration.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, corporations, conservation
organizations, and institutions of higher learning for collaborative stewardship projects. - Develop, submit and implement stewardship grant projects.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and retain stewardship volunteers for weekly restoration activities.
- Implement and update ABNC Natural Resource Management Plan.
- Organize and coordinate stewardship events.
- Assist with various educational activities, including partnerships with various institutions of higher education.
WORKING CONDITIONS: - ABNC is a non-smoking environment.
- Duties require a variable and flexible work schedule.
- Duties frequently require physical exertion, working in heat and humidity, and exposure to potential hazards.
- Duties may require safe handling of pesticides, fuels, and other hazardous materials.
BENEFITS:
- Salary: $55,000 – $60,000
