DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Senior Superintendent to join its Greenspace Management-Lake Houston Wilderness Park team.
The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:
- Assist Division Manager with day-to-day operations of Lake Houston Wilderness Park (day and overnight accommodations including: cabins, shelters, and camping sites).
- Inspect all facilities and create maintenance plans for all areas of the park.
- Supervises maintenance staff that performs all phases of Park operations (facilities maintenance, grounds maintenance, natural resource management/ Nature Center Operations and guest services).
- Overseas customer service supervisor, cashiers, custodial staff directly and ensures quality of all facilities.
- Maintain natural areas with a well-rounded understanding of the native ecosystem.
- Obtain full knowledge of ACTIVENet Software for reservations and reports.
- Directs environmental education programs and plans outreach events, special events and field trips.
- Operates and designs summer camps with S.T.E.M based lesson plans.
- Manages archery range operations and train instructors.
- Assists the Division Manger with establishing and attaining goals and objectives for the division.
- Works to coordinate volunteers at Lake Houston Wilderness Park and is a point person for all projects with volunteers including Eagle Scout Projects.
- Manages, hires, trains, and evaluates performance of personnel.
- Manages the preparation of budgets, expenditure reports and revenue projections.
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures.
- Track inventory and purchases within the park.
- Works with contractors and department managers on joint projects and conflict resolutions.
- Represents departments at meetings with external organizations and agencies.
- Investigates and resolves complaints; evaluates efficiency and productivity of operations and services; develops plans to resolve problems and manage completion of projects.
- Will be required to live onsite when housing becomes available.
- Work a rotating schedule with days off other than Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays.
- Responds to afterhours emergencies and other on-call needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are routing exposures to extreme weather conditions such as heat/cold, moisture and air pollution.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Business Administration, Construction Management (Wildlife, Biology, Conservation) or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of progressively responsible professional and/or skilled experience closely related to the activities of the section are required.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

PREFERENCES
*Preference will be given to applicants with three or more years of supervisory experience.
