Houston Parks and Recreation Department seeks Natural Resources Specialist (Park Naturalist)
Houston Parks and Recreation Department is hiring a Natural Resource Specialist (Park Naturalist). This position will oversee field-based aspects of our habitat restoration projects, including supervising field staff, tracking project goals and outcomes, and conducting field-based data collection. Field work will include mechanical and chemical invasive species removal, tree planting, mulching, and other habitat restoration tasks.
Preferred candidates have experience in field work and are ready to gain experience in management and project coordination. This position pays $26.00 – $26.90/ hour, includes the City of Houston benefits package, and requires one year of prior related experience.

The Natural Resources Division oversees all natural areas with the City of Houston’s 380 public parks, including 26 Nature Preserves and over 30 habitat restoration project sites. Our program manages five prairie restoration sites, and is currently implementing HPARD’s riparian restoration initiative. In this initiative, we are targeting all parks adjacent to waterways for reforestation and habitat enhancement.
