Scroll down to read notes from our member organizations and the community, or view the emailed version of the newsletter, which includes a Texas legislative update and green job listings.
Obviously, Earth Day is a big day if you like clean air, clean water, healthy food, cute (and ugly) wild animals and plants, and great places to live. (On Thursday, help us plan for Earth Day Houston 2018.)
Earth Day is not the only day environmentalists celebrate, and May is a great month for days that are important to many of our organizations. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be featuring events that celebrate some of the following days:
- 5/10/17: World Migratory Bird Day, an awareness-raising campaign of the United Nations Environmental Program and many partners. Birding event are frequently hosted by Houston Audubon, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, Galveston Ornithological Society, and the Outdoor Nature Club’s Ornithology Group, among others.
- 5/10/17: Bike & Walk to School Day (it’s not too late to plan an event!)
- 5/19/17: Endangered Species Day
- 5/19/17: Bike to Work Day, part of Bike Month. Look for many events in the area, including this Saturday’s FrankenBike
- 5/22/17: International Day for Biological Diversity (another UNEP campaign)
- 5/23/17: World Turtle Day
Take advantage of all that’s going on, and connect with our environmental community!

The SoloGen Geothermal Power Plant will utilize existing oil & gas wells with geo-pressured geothermal resources for the co-production of geothermal energy and natural gas/condensate to produce utility scale, base-load electricity.
