The Galveston Island State Park was recently named one of the top 5 “Best Gulf Coast Beaches” by the Travel Channel – the only Texas beach to make the list. The article describes Galveston as feeling like “a major resort destination” able to attract visitors from across the country to its beaches and downtown historic district. It dubs the Galveston Island State Park a “quiet oasis” where visitors can break from the masses to enjoy outdoor activities like bird-watching, biking, picnicking, fishing and beach camping.

The new Cunningham Elementary campus is modern and energy efficienct. HISD spend $16.5 million to rebuild the school and have the building meet criteria for LEED certification. Cunningham Elementary is one of just ten green schools in HISD, and Superintendent Terry Grier says 20 more schools will be certified soon.

Tips include reducing plastic use, learning the ingredients lists, ditching triclosan, and avoiding food treated with antibiotics.
