Description: Meeting Description:
Sometimes the land comes alive, and a camera captures it. Representing landscapes is one of the oldest traditions in art, and a new generation of photographers is interpreting how humans fit with the scenery.
Join Orion for a special live web event featuring photographer Matt Black, as we view and discuss photo projects in which landscape plays a vital role in telling a story. The event is free, open to all, and will take place on October 23, at 7 p.m. Eastern, 4 p.m. Pacific.
Although Matt Black’s portfolio in the new issue of Orion, “After the Fall,” is largely a story of human loss, it’s the crumbling landscape that plays the central role in these gorgeous images of destruction. Rendered in smoky black-and-white, the viewer can see in dramatic and tragic detail how an indigenous Mixteca village’s trees, homes, and farm fields have descended into oblivion.
How is the hallowed tradition of landscape photography changing? Where can its most exciting new practitioners be found? How does it intersect with documentary photography? Join this conversation and share your own thoughts and questions. The event is free to join, will be moderated by Orion staff, and is open to all readers and friends.
Pre-registration is required.
